چکیده
Covering: 2016. Previous review: Nat. Prod. Rep., 2017, 34, 235-294This review covers the literature published in 2016 for marine natural products (MNPs), with 757 citations (643 for the period January to December 2016) referring to compounds isolated from marine microorganisms and phytoplankton, green, brown and red algae, sponges, cnidarians, bryozoans, molluscs, tunicates, echinoderms, mangroves and other intertidal plants and microorganisms. The emphasis is on new compounds (1277 in 432 papers for 2016), together with the relevant biological activities, source organisms and country of origin. Reviews, biosynthetic studies, first syntheses, and syntheses that led to the revision of structures or stereochemistries, have been included.

Marine natural products research: current directions and future potential.
Natural products research is increasingly turning to marine animals, plants, and microbes as source organisms. Several marine natural products are currently in preclinical and clinical evaluation, others show promising biological activities in in vitro and in vivo assays. Investigations of biological and chemical ecological phenomena in the marine world will contribute to a better understanding...
متن کاملMarine Natural Products: A Way to New Drugs
The investigation of marine natural products (low molecular weight bioregulators) is a rapidly developing scientific field at the intersection of biology and chemistry. Investigations aimed at detecting, identifying, and understanding the structure of marine natural products have led to the discovery of 20,000 new substances, including those characterized by an extremely high physiological acti...
متن کاملStatistical Research on Marine Natural Products Based on Data Obtained between 1985 and 2008
Since the 1960s, more than 20,000 compounds were discovered from marine organisms. In this paper we performed a quantitative analysis for the novel marine natural products reported between 1985 and 2008. The data was extracted mainly from the reviews of Faulkner and Blunt [1-26]. The organisms producing these marine natural products are divided into three major biological classes: marine microo...
متن کاملThe role of vanadium bromoperoxidase in the biosynthesis of halogenated marine natural products.
Halogenated natural products are frequently reported metabolites in marine seaweeds. These compounds span a range from halogenated indoles, terpenes, acetogenins, phenols, etc., to volatile halogenated hydrocarbons that are produced on a very large scale. In many cases these halogenated marine metabolites possess biological activities of pharmacological interest. Given the abundance of halogena...
متن کاملIsolation, Characterization and Structural Elucidation of Bioactive Compound in Aurora Globostellata
The ocean covers about 70% of the earth surface providing a diverse living environment for invertebrates [1]. Therefore, marine natural products will play a major role in drug discovery in the future. The work on marine natural products started 59 years ago when Bergman discovered the novel bioactive Arabino-nucleoside from marine sponge Cryptotethya crypta [2]. This discovery encouraged natura...
متن کاملMarine natural products in drug discovery
Marine organisms comprise approximately a half of the total biodiversity, thus offering a vast source to discover useful therapeutics. In recent years, a significant number of novel metabolites with potent pharmacological properties have been discovered from the marine organisms. Although, there are only few marine derived products currently in the market, several marine natural products are no...
